RESULTS OF OUR WORK IN RESPONSE TO THE KAKHOVKA DAM DESTRUCTION

15.07.2023

It has been almost 2 months since the explosion at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, and we can now provide an update on our foundation’s work in assisting the residents of the affected areas.

As you are aware, on the early morning of June 6, 2023, Russian occupying forces detonated the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station dam. The destruction of the dam and the flooding of territories is expected to have long-lasting effects on ecosystems, cities, and industries in the region, with terrible humanitarian, ecological, and economic consequences.

From the very first hours, the team of our foundation was involved in the work of the Coordination Headquarters under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Reintegration. We attended online meetings with the heads of districts and the head of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson Region on the security and humanitarian situation coordinating efforts in addressing our help to people of Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhya regions. We are acquainted with the strategic plan, that was developed to solve urgent problems and provide humanitarian aid and the necessary equipment to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.

We are constantly receiving up-to-date information on the situation and needs, and have already handed over the first aid packages for a total amount of 1 746 517 UAH (approx. 47 205$), which include:

●10 motor pumps and 685 meters of hoses for draining water from damaged or flooded areas;
2 drones to the emergency services involved in evacuating people from flooded areas of the Kherson region;
●more than 1300 units of medicines and medical supplies to address water and salt balance disorders and to treat intestinal infections;
diapers for children and elderly people with limited mobility;
●47 units of household appliances, 40 sets of mattresses, pillows and towels, more than 200 units of hygiene products and household chemicals for the needs of 7 places of compact accommodation for evacuated people (about 500 people);
●2 units of drinking water purification equipment.

Furthermore, we have funded the program of the Ukraine-Israeli Medical Mission FRIDA-UKRAINE with a sum of 151 000 UAH (approx. 4 080$), which involves highly skilled doctors providing specialized medical assistance to the residents of remote and affected communities in the Kherson region.

In addition, we are in close contact with the Kherson Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, and together with the medical staff, we are developing a comprehensive response plan to address the increasing cases of acute gastrointestinal and infectious diseases in the region.

Within the framework of this project, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners who have swiftly and effectively provided us with invaluable support.
