7 children aged 9 to 21;
Dnipropetrovsk Region, Synelnikove.
Alla Pohoretska’s family-type children’s home fosters seven children, five of whom are siblings.
It all started with the fact that in June 2011, Alla and her husband created a foster family and adopted two children – a brother and a sister. In this composition, the family existed until 2023, and on January 1, 2023, a cousin called their daughter Elena and said that Elena’s mother had died, and 3 children (2 boys and a girl) were left without parents.
“We immediately went to the social service and offered to bring the little one into the family, as the older ones are already being raised by us,” says Alla’s mother. In addition to these children, the Pohoretsky couple adopted two more girls, officially establishing a family-type children’s home on January 25, 2023.
“Currently, we have seven children under our care – two Fomins and five Serafimovychs. Three are students, and four are in school,” says mother Alla. “Our children are wonderful; they enjoy reading books, watching cartoons, engaging in paper crafts. The girls like to sing and dance, and everyone contributes to household chores. They dream of the war ending so they can go to school every day. Their aspirations include growing up to build their own house and visiting the sea. Our utmost desire is to provide the children with the warmth and comfort they lacked with their grieving parents.”
The ongoing war necessitates adjustments to the children’s education; most of their studies occur online. The younger children attend school for four lessons each, while the rest continue their education online at home. Unfortunately, there are insufficient devices for all the children to learn, with only one computer available for the entire family. Studying on phones proves challenging, and not everyone possesses them yet.
