FOR PAIN RELIEF AND MUSCLE RECOVERY: NEW EQUIPMENT FOR THE CENTER OF NEUROSURGERY AND NEUROLOGY IN UZHHOROD
Pain relief, restoration of muscle tone, and stimulation of specific muscle groups are important components of rehabilitation for many patients with injuries and impairments. To give specialists at the Regional Clinical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurology in Uzhhorod more opportunities to provide this type of rehabilitation, we provided them with a TensMed S84 neuromuscular electrical stimulator and a set of electrodes, with a total value of UAH 140,428.
The Center’s multidisciplinary rehabilitation team works with adults and children aged three and older with conditions affecting the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. A separate area of its work is the rehabilitation of veterans whose injuries have resulted in impaired motor function and limitations in everyday activities.
The TensMed S84 is designed for neuromuscular stimulation and pain relief. It is used during recovery from injuries and prolonged periods of immobility, as well as in cases of reduced muscle tone, muscle atrophy, and other conditions that require restoration of muscle function.
Natalia Olashyn, Head of the Rehabilitation Department, explained why the team needed this particular device:
“In our work, we deal with pain every day, so this professional device will become a versatile tool for us. It allows us not only to address pain but also to stimulate specific muscle groups. It is also very convenient that the device has four independent channels, allowing us to work with several areas simultaneously. Different electrode sizes also make it easier to work with different areas of the body and muscle groups.”
The full-scale war has significantly changed the burden on Ukraine’s rehabilitation system. In addition to people who need rehabilitation after strokes, illnesses, and everyday injuries, veterans and civilians are now living with the consequences of war-related wounds and injuries. For many of them, rehabilitation is a long journey toward regaining mobility, independence, and the ability to perform everyday activities again.
That is why we need to strengthen the teams that support people throughout this journey every day. As part of the Rehabilitation: New Life project, we provide healthcare facilities with modern equipment and support the professional development of specialists so that high-quality rehabilitation is accessible to more people.
The Rehabilitation: New Life project is implemented with the support of GlobalGiving. We sincerely thank our partners for making it possible to implement such important initiatives in Ukraine.
