DRONES FOR THE KHERSON REGIONAL MILITARY ADMINISTRATION (180,792 UAH)

15.06.2023

Under the “Drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine” program, implemented in collaboration with our partners, City24 company, and McGregorjewelry, we decided to urgently provide 2 available drones to the emergency services involved in evacuating the population from the flooded areas of the Kherson region.

The territory of the Kherson region has been flooded as a result of sabotage by russian invaders at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, leading to contamination of the Dnipro-Bug estuarine system. The flooding has affected 80 settlements on both the right and left banks of Kherson, impacting over 50,000 people.

The ongoing shelling by russian occupation forces in the flooded areas has significantly complicated both the evacuation process and the overall monitoring of the situation. Therefore, drones play a crucial role in this context.

The breach of the dam, coupled with the release of approximately 460 tons of fuel and lubricating materials used in its operation, poses irreparable consequences for the entire ecological system downstream of the Dnipro River and the Dnipro-Bug estuary, which is an integral part of the “Nyzhnedniprovsky” National Nature Park. Furthermore, the presence of the “Nafta-transshipment” company within the flooded area further exacerbates the level of water pollution.

Assessing the immediate damage inflicted on all aspects of life in the Kherson region and implementing urgent measures for their remediation is currently hindered by the temporary occupation of the majority of the region by the aggressor country’s forces. Moreover, the de-occupied areas are subject to constant hostile shelling.

In this situation, drones are indispensable for taking preventive measures to mitigate further negative environmental consequences. They facilitate swift surveying of the flooded territory, which is otherwise difficult or impossible to access, and enable continuous monitoring of the situation.
