Family Story (from the perspective of Olga Veklych)
This year marks the 10th anniversary of our large family. When my husband and I decided to start helping other children, our biological daughter was just one year old.
Today, our family has grown to 10 children: 8 boys and 2 girls.
Life in a large family is filled with daily challenges, numerous needs, but also immense support, love, and shared joy. We stick together, try to stay positive, and look forward to the end of the war with hope.
All our children are active and athletic, with a shared love for football — even the girls! They care about healthy eating, exercise regularly, and always strive to stay in good shape. Our oldest son is now 16 years old and is in the 11th grade. Our youngest daughter will soon turn 11.
With the outbreak of the war, our father went to defend Ukraine, while the children and I were evacuated abroad. We spent two and a half years living abroad, where we stayed close to children from a local care institution. Getting to know them, we felt a deep connection, and our family grew by four more children, who returned home with us in the fall of 2024.
This assistance was provided as part of the family-type children’s home support program. We aim to help foster parents provide children with a comfortable environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive.
