RESULTS OF THE PROJECT “RESILIENCE: REGAINED STRENGTH 2024”

12.12.2024

The “Resilience: Regained Strength 2024” project is part of the foundation’s global program aimed at improving the quality of medical care and rehabilitation in Ukraine. This initiative has become one of the key areas of our work this year.

Context

The ongoing war in Ukraine has led to widespread injuries and trauma, with estimates indicating that 450,000 individuals have sustained various injuries, many requiring amputations or experiencing temporary loss of physical function. In the past two years, Russia has launched more than 11,500 missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, driving daily increases in injuries. This demand has severely strained Ukraine’s healthcare system, already short on skilled personnel. Beyond medical treatment, injured individuals need support for social reintegration. This crisis highlights the urgent need for rehabilitation facilities, medical training, and modern equipment to meet both healthcare and reintegration needs.

Our strategic goal is to improve patient recovery rates, restore physical health, support social adaptation and resocialization, assist individuals in regaining vital life roles, and ensure they feel complete and valued in society. By focusing on tailored approaches, enhancing the quality and speed of rehabilitation, ultimately improving overall outcomes and supporting individuals in returning to fulfilling lives with greater independence and confidence.

Project Highlights

22 units of modern medical and rehabilitation equipment have been supplied to 7 leading medical facilities in Ukraine;
38 doctors successfully trained in electromyography, ultrasound diagnostics, and other advanced treatment methods;
➜ Over 1,200 patients receive higher-quality and more effective medical and rehabilitation services each month.

The project covered Lviv, Uzhhorod, Vinnytsia, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, with a total budget of 250 000$.

Thanks to the implementation of the project, 15,000 people will receive assistance each year on their journey to recovery, reintegration, and return to a full life after the horrors of war.

Detailed information about the project, including the medical institutions involved, the types of assistance they received, feedback from doctors, monitoring results, and future plans, can be found in a separate report that highlights key aspects of the initiative’s implementation and prospects for its further development.

Plans for the Future

The “Resilience: Regained Strength 2024” project is far from finished. We plan to expand our medical programs in several key areas to provide even more opportunities for the rehabilitation and recovery of those affected.

A particular focus will be on social reintegration and psychological recovery. We are working to expand cooperation with medical institutions in regions where the demand for rehabilitation services is the highest. Simultaneously, we plan to implement relevant training programs for medical personnel that will enable doctors to master the latest treatment and rehabilitation techniques and share this knowledge as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Another new direction will be the introduction of art and sports therapy programs for patients. These may include music lessons, pottery, and sports competitions. Such initiatives will help patients relax, overcome stress, restore emotional balance, and fill them with positive emotions. This will significantly support their social reintegration, making the rehabilitation process not only effective but also enjoyable. We are convinced that emotional recovery is an integral part of physical healing.

To implement these ambitious plans and support an even greater number of affected individuals, we aim to engage international partners, expand our resources, and introduce innovative approaches in every aspect of our work. Many challenges lie ahead, but we are confident that, through joint efforts, we will do even more for those in need of help.

Follow our updates, and we will be sure to inform you of the project’s ongoing successes and results!

The “Resilience: Regained Strength 2024” project is implemented with the support of our long-term partner, GlobalGiving.
